Welcome to my new blog!

As you may have guessed by the title, but this blog is intended to be a place to share ideas about costuming both for special occasions like Halloween and for fun cosplay at conventions etc.

I’m Lori and I’ve been going to science fiction conventions for more than 20 years (and ran one for 13 years), so know a little bit about cosplay. My first ever cosplay costume was a brown felt hat and hand knit scarf – my take on Doctor Who at the late, lamented Omnicon in Miami, Florida around 1982. My second was a Star Trek (original series of course) gold command dress I made from scratch based on the patterns in the Star Trek Technical Manual (and me with very little sewing experience – I’m proud to say it actually did turn out halfway decently!). I never did the most elaborate costumes (though I have progressed as a seamstress a bit over the years thanks to about 10 years in the SCA), but it has always been fun.

I plan to post regularly to give you tips and suggestions for making your costume more fun as well as saving money or time. Please book mark us and feel free to add your comments, send us your photos or videos, etc. You can always reach me at costumes@labeshops.com
